We are delighted to announce that the Harwich Swimming Club has recently been accepted on to the Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity for the club to continue to provide excellent swimming opportunities for young people in the local community.
The Jack Petchey Foundation is a London-based charity that provides funding and support to youth organisations and clubs across London and Essex. Their aim is to empower young people to achieve their full potential and make a positive impact in their local communities.
This funding will allow Harwich Swimming Club to purchase new equipment, provide additional training opportunities, and offer more places for young people to join the club. We hope the additional funds will help us become more competitive at County and Regional competitions.
The Jack Petchey Foundation has a strong focus on recognising and celebrating the achievements of young people. They have a number of programmes in place to support young people in developing skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. Harwich Swimming Club will be able to take advantage of these programmes to help develop their members both in and out of the pool.
The funding from the Jack Petchey Foundation is a fantastic opportunity for Harwich Swimming Club to continue to provide high-quality swimming opportunities for young people in the local community. It will also help to promote the importance of physical activity and healthy lifestyles amongst young people.
We are extremely grateful for this funding and look forward to working closely with the Jack Petchey Foundation in the future to continue to develop and grow the club.
Nominations
We are asking all swimmers aged 11-25 to nominate two swimmers for the Jack Petchey Achievement award. (To be eligible for the award the swimmer must be in this age range, so all nominees must be over 11 years old).
It is not about the fastest, the smartest or being the best. The award is designed to recognise outstanding individual achievements.
These achievements can include:
- Helping others over and above expectations
- Being a good role model/mentor
- Showing bravery
- Overcoming a personal challenge
- Volunteering
- Trying really hard
- Breaking through a personal barrier
There will be 4 winners and each will be awarded a certificate, pin badge, a congratulations letter from Jack Petchey and a grant of £300 each to be spent on items from the clubs ‘wishlist’ – which is full of items to benefit the swimmers of the club. This list will be e-mailed out to the nominated swimmers for them to choose from.
